The Microdata Management Toolkit is a software suite developed by the World Bank Data Group for the International Household Survey Network aimimg to promote the adoption of international standards and best practices for microdata documentation, dissemination and preservation.
The Toolkit is conposed of three core modules. The Metadata Editor is used to document data in accordance with international metadata standards ( DDI and w:Dublin Core). The Explorer is a free reader for files generated by the Metadata Editor. It allows users to view the metadata and to export the data into various common formats (STATA, SPSS, etc). The CD-ROM Builder is used to generate user-friendly outputs (CD-ROM, website) for dissemination and archiving. To complement the core moduels, extar utilities and reporting tools are also available in the [IHSN Tools] package.
The open source components of the Toolkit are hosted our SourceForge Project Site. These currently include the CD-ROM Builder and the IHSN Tools.
Note that this web site is intended for a technical audience of experts and users involved in the development of the Toolkit. Regular users should visit the Microdata Management Toolkit section of the International Household Survey Network web site.
